Here is a complaint from one of our readers on CIBC credit cards services provided by CIBC customer support team.
I had an old CIBC Dividend credit card which expired several months ago. It had a negative balance, i.e. CIBC owed me money. I had changed my address before credit card expiration, but did not update that information in CIBC. So, I have not received the new reissued Dividend card.
It is the time to top-up my balance in Rogers Pay-As-You-Go account (cell phone) before expiration date. I’m going to “My Rogers” web page and it is down again.
July 1, 2010 was the day when a a lot of products and services became more expensive by 8% in Ontario and by 7% in British Columbia due to HST law.
One of such services is fitness. Most of the fitness places, gyms, aerobic and running rooms, etc. have momentarily increased their membership fees.
It was an outrageous incident with CIBC customer service representatives by phone at one of the car dealerships in Toronto. I was buying a car and wanted to pay for extended warranty by several credit cards. All the credit cards have been successfully accepted, but CIBC Divident card has not been! The payment did not go through.
Do you remember their former slogan: “Rogers – The most reliable network”? I’m thinking of it every time when I’m speaking on the phone and elevator’s doors are closing, or in the airport, or many other places where Rogers signal becomes very weak or disappears at all.
Did you do shopping at Toys “R” Us? If your purchase list included any of the exempt items, so you have been overcharged by 8% in Ontario and 7% in BC for those items.
Maybe they are trying to collect more tax money for Canadian Government? Or probably they just keep extra profit because most of the customers are not aware of the new HST law in details?…
If you order anything with Purolator courier company and want it to be delivered on time, just call them and ask to deliver. That is right, unfortunately you have to do this. Otherwise package will be on hold at their depot forever and you will never know about this.
Home Depot is one more big retailer that overcharges customers by 8% in Ontario and 7% in British Columbia for some products. And these products are… can you try to guess?!… Books!!! Yes, books which are always exemption from any PST. Books must be taxed only with 5% GST portion of HST.
Sears did not carefully review the full exemption list, reading only headlines of the law. Some products are still overcharged by 8% in Ontario and 7% in BC. The exemption list is not more than one page for each province! Why Sears could not allocate enough resources to properly fix tax issues?! They left this responsibility on customers again! But many buyers are not aware of the entire list in details, and Sear just grabs more money due to “mistake”.
Several days after discharge from NYGH (North York General Hospital) you may receive an invoice with extra charges. Nobody in the hospital advise about them. Telephone services – $2.25 per minute for local Toronto calls. Birth journal – $17. Online payment – $2
