There are multiple complaints on JiaMeiYuan Landscaping interlock installation and concrete work being received by Trueler. Based on review of the complaints and investigation, JiaMeiYuan Landscaping gets the lowest rating – 1 out of 5 – along with advice to avoid dealing with this company despite of lower advertised cost than average market.
In summary, it costed customers much more than the high range of interlocking job available on the marked to fix issues and major ones remaining without feasible possibility to fix.
JiaMeiYuan demonstrated bad quality, no experience in getting job right, showed lack of responsiveness and did not assume any responsibility for numerous issues.
List of complaints including major contract violations and deviations:
- Contractors used property grounds as a washroom. Urine smell lasted for weeks
- Turned street into a dust cloud nightmare for customers and their neighbors by not using any special equipment to reduce amount of dust in the air when cutting stones and make work safe. They were cutting stones on the grass, soil, pallets and directly after installation, accidentally cutting city border
- Did not clean up leaving a lot of hard to remove concrete dust and other dirt
- Built interlock 10% narrower than the contract specified
- Modified pattern without customer’s approval
- Attempted to increase interlock installation cost by 45% half-way during work to build retaining wall which was never discussed. Driveway surface became deeper than the previous surface of asphalt to make a slope from garage to the street. They explained that retaining wall is a must for soil not to come over the driveway but didn’t mention it when signing contract. Lawn re-grading was not offered
- Did not finish sides of the driveway. Left tranches with bedding layer and polymeric sand pouring out. At the end they filled tranches with gravel which was all over the place on the driveway next day representing tripping hazard and looking weird
- No experience working with curves and non-rectangle shapes of driveway which was exposed only half-way during work. When signing contract, they agreed to do it
- No experience working with edge restraints. They didn’t want to put them, only after customer insisted. Wanted to charge extra. Still left big portion without restraints. Put them in a way that they don’t work and impede integrity of the interlock driveway sides instead. Placed restraints by the wrong side and somewhere between pavers and base layer instead of securing exactly to the compacted base layer. Used just a few spikes not according to installation instructions
- Missed to install stones in the corner of drivable area where asphalt used to be
- Excessive use of polymeric sand which sticks on top of pavers in some places
- Lack of polymeric sand in other places leaving joints empty, especially at the sides of the driveway
- Proposed to fill narrow gap between interlock and garage floor with concrete instead of cutting stones of proper size to reach garage floor edge
- Dozens of cigarette butts everywhere
- No precise cutting of stones which is visible now
- Putting unaccepted garbage in recycle cart
- Consuming alcohol at the job site on property (found container after they left)
- Advised that driveway can be used the next day despite of general recommendation to wait 48 hours during dry weather to let polymeric sand harden
- Concrete floor in garage which they made is very rough with big protrusions, dents and other marks
- Buried garage door tracks/rails into concrete despite that customer specifically asked to pay attention to it. Now the door won’t close (can’t lock and gap on side), because floor became higher than it used to be. The whole garage door with tracks has to be removed and re-done including extraction of rails from concrete floor and filling holes with concrete again
- Did not order stones in advance despite of customer’s request to do so. It caused delay in starting work. Explained that stones had to be ordered from factory and manufactured because they were out of stock. They proposed to substitute with other available stones which customer didn’t want. Magically stones became available later the same day
- When stones arrived, customer advised JiaMeiYuan Landscaping that the quantity is not sufficient to complete the job. It was ignored and caused another delay half-way waiting for more stones to be delivered
- Paver stones lost rich dark colors and faded / effloresced a lot becoming lighter and greyish
- Left 1-inch open gap in front between paver stones and concrete base built at the yard entrance. Bedding layer started to pour out
- Did not assume any responsibility for above issues and stopped responding
